The Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch and the Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown are both available for trade to teams that are in need of running backs. Both have potentials to be great running back as former high-round draft picks but both have been expendable to their current teams.
Lynch was drafted by the Bills in 2007 as a first-round pick but has not been able to live up to expectation because of multiple off-field incidents and lost his starting job to Fred Jackson. His performance in last season was totally disappointing with only 450 rushing yards in 13 games.
As for Brown, who was a 2005 first-round pick, he has spent all of his first five seasons with the Dolphins but became expendable more than one year ago because of continual injuries. That last straw could be the Lisfranc fracture in his foot that was suffered on Nov. 15 and ended Brown’s season early after he started only nine games in Dolphins jersey. The Dolphins even have already had a plan of replacement to Brown if they manage to have Brown put on another team’s NFL jersey—33-year-old Ricky Williams, who had four 100-yard rushing games while replacing injured Brown last season, is expected to be the starting running back in the new season.

Bills Coach Gailey wants to retain RB Lynch
The Buffalo Bills new coach Chan Gailey actually does not want much change to the team’s running backs. He intends to have a two-back system and wants both running backs Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson to remain in Bills jerseys.
"Marshawn is an excellent football player," Gailey said Thursday at the NFL scouting combine. "The guy’s extremely talented, can catch the ball, can run it. He can run with power. He can get around the edge. He’s a very good football player. I hope we’re able to take him and use him."
With Jackson and Lynch, the Bills could have a formidable running tandem provided that they are able to overhaul the offensive line. Although Lynch has a history of off-field problems and began last year with an NFL suspension, the Bills are still likely to give him the chance show his on-field talents.

Butler’s retirement was a surprise to his teammates
After the Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Brad Butler announced his retirement, some teammates couldn’t believe it was true. The 26-year-old man was expected to return as the Bills’ starting right tackle for 2010 season but he chose to take off NFL jersey to concentrate on his education and political aspirations.
“It came as a great shock to me,” offensive guard Eric Wood told the Bills’ official Web site. “Brad called me Thursday and we had a good conversation and when it was getting toward the end of the conversation I asked him how his leg was doing. He said that’s what he was calling about and that he was retiring from the Bills. As we went on he said he has more aspirations outside of football.”
Offensive tackle Demetrius Bell also expressed his surprise but said that he knew Brad and understood he had other interests besides football and he could not “devote the time necessary to be successful in football at the same time.”

Bills may get rid of RB Lynch
Being suspended for the first three games of the 2009 season and finishing the season with only 450 yards and two scores, the Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch may have to take off his No. 23 Bills jersey in near future, leaving starting job to running back Fred Jackson.
That was definitely what we expected from Lynch when he came out of California as a first-round pick in 2007. As a rookie, he rushed for 1,115 yards and had seven touchdowns in just 13 games. He made his sophomore season a stellar one by lading on a Pro Bowl berth.
But something happened before that ’08 season that began Lynch’s downfall in Buffalo. He was involved in a hit-and-run accident that summer that left a pedestrian injured. Although he was not leveled with any criminal charges, the incident turned out to be the beginning of further run-ins with the law. Days after his Pro Bowl appearance, Lynch was pulled over in his home state and was discovered to have a loaded gun in his car. He was arrested and pled guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge, which resulted in the league suspending him for the first three games of the ’09 season.
While Lynch was struggling throughout the season, third-year running back Fred Jackson emerged as a much more dependable back by piling up 1,433 yards from scrimmage. Besides, Lynch has bad relationship with his teammates while Jackson always appears to mild-mannered and humble.
Judging from all of these factors, the Bills will find some way to get rid of Lynch during this offseason. At least new head coach Chan Gailey, who emphasized the importance of character during his initial press conference, will not allow Lynch to have good time there.

Bills DB Whitner gets probation in disorderly conduct case
The Buffalo Bills defensive back Donte Whitner will have to report to a probation officer monthly and avoid trouble for the next three months as he has been placed in a first-time offenders program with probation for a disorderly conduct case in Cleveland.
The NFL player was arrested in April on allegations of trying to force his way past police officers dealing with a crowd outside a nightclub. He was later charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. On Monday Municipal Court Judge Angela Stokes approved Whitner’s participation in the diversion program.
The prosecutor’s office didn’t object to Whitner’s participation. After reviewing the case, the probation department said the player in Bills jersey was qualified to participate in the program. Hopefully he will learn from such experience how to act in similar situation.

Bills QB Edwards suffered concussion during Sunday game against Jets
After a 16-13 overtime victory over the New York Jets, the Buffalo Bills announced that their quarterback Trent Edwards had suffered a blow to the head. The injury was later confirmed to be a concussion by the Coach Dick Jauron.
Following a sack early in the second quarter, Edwards was taken down at the Bills 43 by linebackers in Jets jerseys David Harris and Calvin Pace. He remained on the turf or a few minutes before gingerly getting up and slowly walking to the sidelines with help of trainers. He spent some time sitting on the bench with helmet and Bills jersey on and talking with trainers. But eventually he had to be taken to the locker room. Ryan Fitzpatrick replaced him on the Bill’s next possession.
Edwards was 5 of 5 for 43 yards before leaving. Other injured Bills players include safety Donte Whitner, defensive tackle Kyle Williams, cornerback Terrence McGee and tight end Shawn Nelson.

$400,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from home of Bills safety Whitner
After the Buffalo Bills won over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the Bills safety Donte Whitner found a big loss at home: someone stole about $400,000 worth of jewelry from his home.
“It’s mind-boggling,” said the player’s spokeswoman Patrice Horton, who described Whitner as upset and hurt. “He’s safe, but he’s on high alert. He doesn’t know who did this.”
Police have been investigating the theft and Hamburg Detective Lt. Kevin Trask released few details because of the ongoing investigation. He would not say whether there was evidence of a forced entry or when the theft might have happened.
The theft caused more concern among the Bills players, maybe as well as a lot players in other teams' nfl jerseys, after Leodis McKelvin’s front lawn in the same suburb was vandalized by two teenagers last week. They have been worrying about their privacy and safety although there was no evidence showing that the theft and what happened at McKelvin’s home were unrelated.
